Application In Cellulose Pulp
1.Kraft Pulping: In the kraft pulping process, solid caustic soda is used to break down lignin, a complex polymer that binds cellulose fibers together in wood. It is added to the wood chips along with water and heat to create a chemical reaction that dissolves lignin and separates the cellulose fibers. This process produces strong pulp suitable for making paper.
2.Delignification: Solid caustic soda is employed in the delignification stage of pulp production to remove lignin from the cellulose fibers. It helps break the chemical bonds between lignin and cellulose, allowing the lignin to be dissolved and washed away, leaving behind purified cellulose fibers.
3.Bleaching: After the kraft pulping process, the resulting pulp may undergo a bleaching stage to further improve its brightness and purity. Sodium hydroxide is used in the bleaching process to facilitate the removal of residual lignin and other impurities. It is often used in combination with other chemicals, such as chlorine or hydrogen peroxide, to achieve the desired bleaching effect.
4.PH Adjustment: Solid caustic soda is also used to adjust the pH of various pulp processing stages. Controlling the pH is essential for optimizing the effectiveness of other chemicals used in the process, such as enzymes or bleaching agents.
