Application In Animal And Vegetable Oil Refining
Solid Caustic soda, also known as sodium hydroxide (NaOH), play an important role in the refining of animal and vegetable oils.
In the refining process, caustic soda flakes are used to neutralize and remove free fatty acids, as well as other impurities, from the crude oil. This process is called "alkali refining" or "neutralization refining."
In the alkali refining process, the crude oil is mixed with a solution of caustic soda flakes and water, and the mixture is heated and stirred. The caustic soda flakes react with the free fatty acids in the oil, forming soap molecules that are removed from the oil through a separation process. The soap molecules can then be recovered and processed into other products, such as glycerol.
In addition to their use in alkali refining, caustic soda flakes may also be used in other refining processes, such as bleaching and deodorization. In the bleaching process, caustic soda flakes may be used to remove impurities and color from the oil, while in the deodorization process, they may be used to remove odor-causing compounds.
